구 벨기에 영사관인 현 남서울 시립미술관은 역사적 가치와 존재감을 잃어가고 있다. 유동인구가 넘쳐나는 사당역 인근에 위치해 있지만 시각적으로 보이지않아 사람들의 발길이 닿지 않고, 유일한 프로그램인 상설전시는 아는 사람들만 찾아가는 곳이 되었다. 유동인구들을 끌어들이고 지역주민들의 이용을 이끌어 내어 건물의 존재감을 높이고 활성화 하는 것이 목표였다.
사람들과 건물을 시각적으로 연결하는 매개체로 아치를 이용하여 다이나믹한 전시공간인 동시에 지역주민들이 날마다 이용할 수 있는 개방감있는 도서관공간을 만들고자 하였다. 방치되어있는 건물이 아니라 역사적가치를 지니면서 사람들을 끌어들이고 현재에 살아있는 공간이 되기를 바라면서 설계하였다.
The current Nam Seoul Museum of Art, the former Belgian Consulate, is losing its historical value and presence. It is located near Sadang Station, which is overflowing with floating population, but it is not visually visible, so people cannot visit, and the permanent exhibition, the only program, has become a place only for those who know it. The goal was to increase and revitalize the presence of the building by attracting the floating population and attracting the use of local residents.
It was intended to create a dynamic exhibition space and an open library space that local residents can use every day by using the arch as a medium to visually connect people and buildings. It was designed not to be an abandoned building, but to attract people with historical value and to become a living space in the present.
